Tampa, FL (April 28, 2020) After repeated public record requests to state health officials to identify all nursing home and assisted living facilities with positive COVID-19 cases, the Florida Department of Health finally created a provisional report revealing the number of elderly residents and staff confirmed to have the deadly virus in each county.
Fifteen nursing homes and assisted living facilities are currently included on the latest DOH list for Hillsborough County.
In Tampa, the Bristol at Tampa Rehabilitation and Nursing Center shared a Facebook post they only had one resident who tested positive less than two weeks ago. Today, according to the latest update from the State of Florida’s Health Agency for Health Care Administration, that number has sky-rocketed quickly to 16 residents and 7 staff members all of whom tested positive for COVID-19. Seven residents have been transferred out of this nursing home facility as a result of the outbreak.
In a prepared statement released yesterday, administration officials of Bristol at Tampa said “we are continuing to screen all employees for COVID-19 symptoms prior to entering our center for their shift, as well as during their shift. All employees in our community are also wearing regulation-approved personal protective equipment (PPE) for the entire duration of their shift. We are fortunate to share that we are in ample supply of PPE.”
However, many families have not been provided regular updates on their loved ones. Some question the accuracy of the information provided given the nursing homes corporation ongoing reluctance to reveal coronavirus patient data and most support the release of the additional details about the cases in facilities caring for the most vulnerable residents among us.
