Tampa, FL (March 23, 2020) – On the night of Sunday, March 22, a tow truck was on its way to assist another motorist when it crashed into a disabled car on Interstate 75 near Tampa.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the driver of the tow truck, 36-year-old Jason Lee Everitt, struck the 2006 Chevy Cobalt as it sat on the highway’s outer shoulder.
After hitting the Chevy, Everitt’s 2017 International tow truck collided with a guardrail and overturned down an embankment. It’s believed that Everitt was not wearing a seatbelt. He was thrown from his vehicle.
The report indicates that Everitt drove for Sunstate Wrecker Services. His truck stopped rolling on the grassy shoulder of U.S 301. Everitt died at the scene.
Fortunately, the people sitting in the disabled car were not injured. The driver of the Chevy, 19-year-old Kiel Williams and his passenger, 21-year-old Jacqueline Beech, left the scene unharmed. An investigation into this incident is ongoing.
